Today we launched the "Donate a day to the bay" campaign with the help of form
er test cricketer Matthew Hayden.
He has urged people to visit Moreton Bay as part of the plan to support the tourism region, following last week's oil spill. The goal is for 250,000 ‘days on the bay’ to be donated over the next three months. People are asked to log on to www.moretonbayislands.com.au, where a barometer will calculate the ‘donations’ received and measure progress toward the 250,000 target.
Long time Moreton Bay fan and the face of the campaign, Matthew Hayden, is keen to see the region bounce back from the oil spill.
“Our family has enjoyed holidaying at North Stradbroke Island for years. My cricket career has taken me all over the world, and I can say that Moreton Bay is a true treasure that we need to support and protect,” he said.
“I encourage everyone to Donate a day to the bay, whether it’s fish and chips at Manly, sky-diving at Redcliffe, swimming at Bribie Island, world-class diving at Flinders Reef, kayaking at North Stradbroke Island or hand-feeding wild dolphins at Tangalooma. Every time we enjoy our Bay we are also helping the region and its operators to recover from the oil spill.”
Visit www.moretonbayislands.com.au to donate your days today.

When we came up with idea for the "Donate a day to the bay" campaign we thought we would contact some the tourism operators in the region to see how they were doing.
One of these operators was Tangalooma Resort. They thought that pictures would speak louder than words. These are just some of the photos supplied by Tangalooma Resort.

They also added:
Tangalooma has NOT been affected by the recent oil spill in the open waters close to Moreton Island. The spill has remained outside of Moreton Bay and has only affected the north and eastern side of the island. The resort is still operating as per normal and current bookings will remain valid unless notified otherwise.

On Monday Triple J sent Kaitlyn Sawrey out to Moreton Island to investigate the damage caused by the spill. This is a great report and we have provided a link for you to have a listen to the story.
We think the first line of the report sums things up nicely.
"When you arrive on Tangalooma Island resort by ferry everything looks pretty normal there's tourists watchng the pelicans and waiting for dolphin feeding time...."
Follow the link and you can also see some wonderful picttures of the clean up effort - inlcuding a great shot of the workers taking a swim. Those protection suits must get very hot in the Brisbane sun!
